NOTE: HPLA Bootcamp is designed for those who have taken a previous HPLA, completed a similar course, or can complete a brief assessment showing preparation for the coursework.

Housing Policy Bootcamp Course Overview

The Housing Policy Bootcamp is a 5-week course designed to follow the Housing Policy Leadership Academy and provides dedicated housing leaders with the opportunity to dive deeper into leadership and coalition-building strategies and to apply the 5Ps framework by developing a pro-housing policy proposal and presentation.

Participants are expected to commit approximately 3 hours per week for 5 weeks to explore leadership and coalition-building strategies while working with a team to prepare a policy proposal and presentation.

At the end of the 5 weeks, proposals will be presented to housing policy practitioners who have the ability to elevate promising ideas and provide professional perspectives to further refine policy ideas and strategies.

The GPLA 5Ps: Produce - Housing for All; Preserve - Vulnerable Housing; Promote - Equity and Inclusion; Protect - Tenants; Prevent - Displacement.

Who Should Join the Housing Policy Bootcamp?

The Housing Policy Bootcamp offers an opportunity to put housing policy ideas into practice. Some exposure to housing policy is required to be successful in the class, and the ideal candidate is:

  • A past or recent HPLA graduate*
  • Elected officials and candidates
  • Professionals from the housing, planning, development, and finance sectors
  • Government agency staff
  • Housing and community advocates



* Or other leadership or housing-focused program.

Course Requirements

Each Housing Policy Bootcamp session runs 2.5 hours with breaks, and participants should expect to spend 3 hours each week exploring leadership and coalition-building strategies while working with a team to prepare a policy proposal and presentation.
